At Alveley Primary School we welcome the chance to bring together all members of the community and love to celebrate our shared understanding of our British values. We recognise the multicultural, multi-faith nature of the United Kingdom and understand the crucial role our schools play in promoting these values. We are a school for all. This statement outlines the key British values we actively promote.
Individual Liberty
Children have key roles and responsibilities in school, such as children in Key Stage 2 who take on the roles of Sports Ambassadors, School Councillors and Playground Buddies, working alongside our Lunch time Supervisors and School Staff. This helps them to gain an understanding of responsibility.
Within school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.
As a school we educate and provide boundaries for children to make choices safely.
Through our clubs and opportunities, children are given the freedom to make choices.
Our Vision Statement embodies the values we hold dear in becoming the best Alveley Primary we can be.
Democracy
Children are involved in Democratic processes e.g. voting for school councillors and shared rewards. The School Council is led by a member of staff- Mr O’Malley-who adheres to those democratic processes. Alongside the children, he has drawn up a charter for how the council meetings would be led. We have links to the local PCSO who comes into school to educate the children about upholding British law.
Mutual Respect
Respect is embedded throughout our whole school. Our day to day learning embodies values of mutual respect both implicitly and explicitly. Through carefully planned units of PSHE these values are unpicked and contextualised so that the children and staff can understand to live out those values. Relationships and being a responsible citizen is at the heart of what we want to achieve.
The Rule of Law
Our behaviour policy echoes the values of our Vision Statement which all stakeholders understand and follow.
Assemblies and class circle time are delivered with a focus on the law e.g. Safety Awareness and E-Safety Awareness.
We regularly review behaviour incidents in school and share these with key stakeholders.
We have links with the local police through the PCSO and Crucial Crew programme.
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
Our R.E curriculum provides a broad and balanced education on a range of faiths, religions and cultures. At Alveley Primary Christian values are at the core of our community and our families from other faiths value and embrace this aspect of our school.
We have families from other faiths who choose Alveley Primary because they know we respect and celebrate diversity. The reciprocal partnership allows us to learn and grow together.
