Medical Issues
When your child starts school, you will be asked to complete a form outlining any medical history that we should be aware of. It is important that this information is kept up to date, and parents/carers should notify the school of any changes to their child's medical needs.
If your child has a medical condition, please discuss this with their class teacher as soon as possible. We are committed to ensuring that all children can access school safely and fully. Where appropriate, the class teacher will work in partnership with parents/carers and relevant professionals to develop an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) and, where necessary, a risk assessment to ensure your child's needs are met effectively in school.
Illness During the School Day
Whilst the school is committed to ensuring every pupil achieves the highest possible attendance, there may be occasions when your child is too unwell to attend.
If your child becomes unwell during the school day, we will contact you immediately. We will do all we can to comfort your child; however, we do not have the staffing or facilities to care for children who are unwell for an extended period.
Injuries at School
If your child sustains a minor injury whilst at school, we will administer appropriate first aid. If your child receives a head injury, we will always inform you and provide a head injury letter. Should we have any concerns about your child's wellbeing, we will contact you immediately. All injuries are recorded in accordance with school procedures.
Medicines
If your child requires medication during the school day, a medicine administration form must be completed at the school office. We will only administer prescribed medicines in accordance with our school procedures.
Please ensure that any long-term medication, such as inhalers, adrenaline auto-injectors or other essential medicines, is clearly labelled, in date and provided to the school. Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring replacement medication is supplied before expiry dates.
Allergies
If your child has any allergies, including food allergies, please inform the school as soon as possible. This information will be shared with relevant staff to help ensure your child's safety and wellbeing whilst in our care. Where necessary, appropriate healthcare plans and risk assessments will be put in place.
