Elm Class

Welcome to Elm class

Spring Term

The Elm trip to the Sealife centre was a fantastic day. The children had a wonderful time looking at penguins, watching the sharks and rays being fed, looking closely at rock pools and walking under an amazing under water tunnel. They also had a great time in a 4D cinema, where they got rather wet- such fun! The children showed excellent behaviour throughout the day and we are super proud of them all.

Thank you to the parents for continued support in funding the trips! They add a huge amount to the children's learning experiences.

Elm class have been exploring techniques for printing – to use in their under the sea compositions – they had a great time making choices about what to print with. All children had some interesting ideas.

During Maths Elm class have been learning about measurement and perimeter. They used wool to show that perimeters can be the same length but different shapes. They have learning to convert between mm cm and metres

Autumn Term

Wow! What a jam packed term we’ve had so far.

In just 8 weeks – we have had a visit from Ofsted to see our brilliant School. The children were amazing and were able to share their enthusiasm for our Romans, with the inspectors. Elm have been working incredibly hard – delving into the past to find out about life in Ancient Rome. We started by putting together a time line so we could understand how long ago Rome was founded. We thought Mrs Kinnersley’s timeline was big before we started the one for 735BC! That took a lot of cubes.

A particular favourite was our visit to Wroxeter Roman city and discovering that over 2000 years ago people would visit the toilets and sit alongside each other and chat. When on our visit – we were able to act out being a real roman. We exercised in the Basilica and jumped into the cold plunge pool! Bbbrrrr it was cold! Thank you to Mrs Flemming for being our tour guide for the day. We came up with a catch phrase…..‘Mrs Flemming – Better than Google!’

Elm class were lucky enough to have a Roman experience afternoon. During the afternoon they looked at and tried on a suit of Roman Armour!

“The armour was really heavy, it was made of metal to protect them!” Ruby

“I liked the Roman Armour visit because we got to experience something from the time of the Romans! We also saw vases, jewellery and roman clothes. ” Adam

We would like to thank Mrs Fleming for making this experience possible.
