This term we have been thinking about Our World and how we can take care of it. We have enjoyed reading Lottie’s Letter and Charlie and Lola - Look After Your Planet, along with other books. We have found out more about ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’. In our class we have made our own recycling centre and also made our own recycled paper! While reusing our rubbish we have enjoyed junk modelling, individually and in groups working together in the hall on a large scale.

We enjoyed reading traditional tales in class. After enjoying Goldilocks and the Three Bears we decided to make our own porridge. We made our porridge and tried different toppings, we then voted for our favourites. After making porridge we wrote recipes, prepared for a teddy bears party and collected votes from children in other classes. Some of us even made our own porridge in the mud kitchen!

EYFS really enjoyed welcoming parents and carers for an afternoon of Easter crafts, cake and a chance to catch up on the children’s learning over the Spring term. Thank you to all of those who were able to join us!

In EYFS we have been fascinated as we have observed the life cycle of a frog. We have really enjoyed watching them grown and develop from frogspawn.

Welcome back

It has been lovely to welcome our children back into school and to get to know our new friends who have started with us this term. We have had lots of fun exploring the environment and playing with each other. It has been great to see how well everyone has settled in together. It has also been lovely to take part in the daily school routines such as lunchtimes and assembly. We are looking forward to next week!

Homes

Our topic this term has been Homes. We have enjoyed talking about our own homes, sharing photographs and painting pictures. We have also read lots of stories about homes. The Three Little Pigs captured our interest and we had lots of fun finidng different ways to tell the story - both inside and outside the classroom. We created our own pigs masks to use in our play and collaged the three houses. This lead us on to develop our own stories such as 'The Three Little Mermaids' and 'The Three Little Giraffes'!

Animal homes

Within our topic animal homes have captured our interest. We have been particuarly facinated by woodland animals, we have enjoyed learning more about woodland animals, building animal homes in the forest and sharing stories about animal homes which have inspired our activities. We are currently reading 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark', we have enjoyed creating art work of woodland creatures, looking carefully at the features within the illustrations and selecting resources from our creative trolley for our artwork. Reading the story has led us to share our own special memories which we then recorded. We have also been interested in exploring and investigating light and dark which has developed vocabulary.

Child Initiated Learning

We loved to engage in the provision within our environment. Taking the opportunity to follow our own interests and engage in meaningul learning experiences; adults can then engage with us to support and extend us to further develop learning opportunities at an appropriate level for our individual next steps.
